Elvin Verl Asay was born Saturday, April 22, 1922 in Castle Dale, Utah to Joseph Edward and Susan Sariah Johnson Asay.

He married LaVaun Heaton on September 7, 1942 in Alton, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 6, 1943.

Verl represented the 11th Utah Senate District (now the 6th Utah Senate District) in the Utah State Senate from 1979-1986 and several years on the Kearns Town Council. He was a member of The Republican Party.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Verl served in the Bishopric and as Bishop, High Priest, Group Leader, Ward Clerk, Church and Seminary Teacher. He was called at age thirty-six to be a Patriarch, the youngest in the Church at that time. Also served three missions with his wife to Washington State, Toronto, Canada, and London, England.

Beloved father of one son, three daughters, and four infant children. Beloved brother of seven siblings.

Verl passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 1991 of pneumonia at Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah at the age of sixty-nine years old. He resided at 4891 South Hillmar Street (1890 West) in Taylorsville, Utah at the time of his death.

Verl left to cherish his memory his wife; son, Joseph Edward and wife Arlene Asay, Taylorsville; three daughters, Verla and husband Roger Anderson, Murray; Kay and husband Robert Holbrook and Sharon and husband Michael Ray, all of Taylorsville; twenty grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; four brothers, Eldred J. Asay, Murray; Seth B. Asay, Bountiful; Zane S. Asay, Washington, Utah; Ervil D. Asay, St. George; and sister, Georgia Nielsen, Layton. He was preceded in death by four infant children, parents, and two brothers, Juan and Basil.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, May 20, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. in the Taylorsville Tenth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 4950 South 1950 West in Taylorsville. Calling hours were held on Sunday, May 19, 1991 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home located at 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West) in Taylorsville and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Verl was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services in the Elysian Burial Gardens Cemetery in Millcreek Township.
