Joseph S. Clarno, 87, of Normal, IL., passed away at 8:02 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Heritage Manor in Normal. He was born on May 12, 1921, in Farmer City, IL the son of Harry and Inez McCord Clarno. He attended the University of Illinois before enlisting in the United States Army, during World War II. He married Kathryn Dohmann on February 18, 1945. After 58 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 1, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Inez Clarno; his brother, John Holzer and a brother-in-law, Russell Dohmann. He retired from Corn Belt Bank in 1986. During his retirement years in Florida, he was active in the Ocala community, the Methodist church and his retirement community association. He treasured his family and friends. Joe's favorite pastimes included woodworking, camping, cards, travel and geneology. He was a member of the Farmer City Masonic Lodge, the Bloomington and Ocala Shrine, the Tin Lizzie Patrol and Calvary United Methodist Church. He is survived by one son, James (Nancy) Clarno of Round Rock, TX; two daughters, Anne Smith and Karen (Bill) Lee, both of Normal; six grandchildren, Andy (Claire), Kevin (Kenzie), Jenna Clarno and Michael, Elizabeth and Rachel Lee and four great grandchildren, Grant, Charlie, Drew and Baby Clarno. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Helen Holzer and Janet Dohmann, five nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Farmer City United Methodist Church, with Rev. Louella Pence officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City. East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
