Schiebel, Mello George, born Nov. 14, 1922 in Hesson, Ontario, died May 24, 2012 at the Westmount Nursing Home, Kitchener Ontario. Mello leaves behind his wife of 63 years Pat (Hogan), daughter Bernadette Woods (Barry), and sons Dana (Kathy), Blair (Joanne), Paul (Marna), Leon (Sheila) and John (Lenore), sisters Ursula Hahn and Marina Hay, sister-in-law Mary Schiebel, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mello was pre-deceased by his parents John Schiebel and Mary Basler, sisters Alma (Jim) Bishop, Mona (Jack) Jackson, brothers Greg (Madeline) and Cosmas, brother-in-laws Alf Hahn and Ken Hay, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mello was brought up on a farm in Hesson and took great pride in his vegetable gardens. He had a great love of nature and the simple things in life and appreciated all he was blessed with. He loved his church where he was involved throughout his whole life. Serving as an alter boy, an usher, a member of both the Holy Name Society and the Stratford Council of the Knights of Columbus, a devoted leader of the rosary, and a fund raiser. He also spent time volunteering to drive seniors to mass and was active in the Pro-Life movement. Even in his last years while fighting dementia and later Alzheimer's, his prayers and the mass were very important to him.

Dad was a gentle quiet man but he did have a sharp wit. He was humble but was very responsible. Helping his disabled father run the family farm instilled in him a lifelong empathy for seniors. Over the years he worked for the Millbank Cheese Factory and later both Silverwood's and Maple Lane Dairies where, while helping him on his routes, all of his sons got some of their early work experience and valuable life lessons. His family was very dear to him and he often provided sensible guidance to his children. He loved to drive and took his family on many trips to different destinations across North America.

The family would like to thank the many staff members at the Westmount Nursing Home who took a special liking to Mello and who always treated him with loving care.

Visitation will take place at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral home 621 King St. W., Kitchener on Sunday May 27th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM with parish prayers at 8:30 PM. The funeral and reception will be held on Monday May 28th at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 Laurentian Dr., Kitchener at 11 AM. Burial to follow later that afternoon at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hesson.
