Claus Poppe Chilton Times December 24, 1898

Mr. Claus Poppe died at the home of his son Henry, in the town of Charlestown on Thursday the 15th. Mr. Poppe was born in 1822, in Hohenwestedt, Holstein, Germany, being therefore 76 years of age. In 1852 he emigrated to America and shortly after his arrival settled in the town of Charlestown, where he resided until his death. He was a veteran of the rebellion and a member of the GAR Post. In 1851, he was married to Miss Thiessen, who with two children, Henry and Matthias, survives him. He was buried on Sunday afternoon.
