following information added by Findagrave Contributor JVP...PVT, Quantrill's Co, Quantrill's Guerrilla Regiment, MO-CSA

One of Quantrill's first recruits in 1862. Brother of Richard "Dick" Maddox. Was
a participant in Lawrence, Kansas on August 21, 1863 as well as at Baxter
Springs, October 6, 1863. Captured February 8, 1866 and kidnapped across the
border to Lawrence to stand trial. Was acquitted. Moved to Nevada, Missouri and
worked for the railroad. He then moved to Jefferson City, Missouri and in 1887
worked as a guard at the Missouri State Penitentiary.

According to the February 8, 1901 Lee's Summit Journal, Maddox died on January
4, 1901 and is buried in Jefferson City, Missouri. But the April 5, 1901 issue
said he was still alive. Other sources say he died on July 28, 1906.
The photo appears to be of John McCorkle and not Maddox ... it shows up often for any of Quantrill's guerrillas
