Audra Johnson Honesty, a beloved daughter, sister, grand and great grandmother, aunt, friend and teacher, 87, went on to glory on May 19, 2012.

Born on February 12, 1925, to John Edward and Havanna Johnson, of Front Royal, Va., Audra attended Manassas Industrial Regional High school, graduating in 1944. She went on to further her education at Virginia State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1949.

Audra met and married Wilbur R. Honesty, an entrepreneur in Winchester, and began a partnership in his family owned business, Hill Top Inn Restaurant, Cabins and Gulf Gas Station. After working and having their first two children, she began her teaching career.

She taught in the Frederick County School system for twenty three years, starting at Middletown Elementary School. Audra advanced on to Gibson Elementary School, where she taught multiple grades and was the principal there for many years. After desegregation, she moved to Senseny Road Elementary School and taught until she retired in 1979.

A faithful and active Christian, Audra was a long time member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where she first started serving as the church clerk, a missionary, a Sunday school teacher, then a member of the Board of Trustees serving as the church treasurer for many years before being given the coveted title of Mother of the Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband and son, Wilbur R. Honesty, Sr. and Jr., her brothers Harold and Linwood Johnson, and sisters Raye Bowens, Elizabeth Nickens and Adele Lewis.

She is survived by her children Adrienne, Roslyn Ella, Vanessa and Donald Honesty, her grandchildren Justin Jones, Tina and Rachel Lavender, her great-grandchildren, Zah-tya and Alecia Jones, her brothers Everett, Oswald, and John "Billy" Johnson and her sister Gloria Dyer.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Thursday May 24, 2012 at 11:00 am. The service will be officiated by Rev. Gilbert Mack, who along with Rev. Hicks, Pastor Mark Kennerly and Rev. Jonetta Carter, who will all be bring forth Words of Praise.

The burial will take place immediately after service at Orrick Cemetery, with the repast following at the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday May 23, 2012 between 6-8 pm.
