Bert was born and raised in Houston and was living with his mother and sister, when he graduated from M. B. Smiley High School with the Class of 1966 and the following year enlisted in the Marines 28 September 1967, at a Houston Recruiting Office.
He arrived in Vietnam 1 January 1969 and was assigned to H & S Company, 3rd
Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment and later reassigned to 3rd Platoon of Alpha Company, 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Alpha Company was participating in Operation Oklahoma Hills and was in a night defensive position, 11 kilometers north northwest of the Ha Tan Airfield. Bert was in front of the perimeter lines when he was mistaken for an enemy soldier and shot by another Marine that was on guard watch.
Carl was med-evac and died 16 days later, at approximately 1500H, at the Station Hospital Danang as a result of bilateral pneumonia due to gunshot wounds to the body from friendly fire.
Survived by his mother, Marciliet Moran and his sister, Marsha Moran both of 8184 Record Street, Houston, Texas and his father, Bert M Adams Jr of unknown address.
