—Dixie Jean Graham Bell, 70, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and teacher, went home to be with the Lord April 17, 2006. She was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Abilene and grew up in Dallas where she attended Adamson High School. She attended Baylor University where she met her husband, Jack, and they were married in 1956. She spent her life teaching students first in Eldorado from 1959 to 1970 and then in Kerens ISD from 1971 to 2002. She taught a variety of subjects and was the UIL director for many years sharing her wisdom of debate and public speaking with numerous students. In 1993, she was recognized by The University of Texas with the Teaching Excellence Award. In 1997, she was honored to receive the Southwestern Bell UIL Sponsor Excellence Award. Kerens ISD awarded her Teacher of the Year six times.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.
She is survived by two sons, Andy of Southlake and Larry of Kerens; two daughters-in-law, Kimberli and Shannon; and five grandchildren, Austin, Ashley, Aaron, Kaley and Brooke.
Memorials may be made to the Bell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Cedar Creek Bank or First Baptist Church of Kerens.
Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Kerens.
