Gene Pixton Eardley, M.D.

ST. GEORGE - Dr. Gene Pixton Eardley, 90, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Kolob Care Center in St. George. He was born April 16, 1915, along with his twin brother Paul Pixton Eardley, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward Holding and Olive Pixton Eardley. Gene married Helen Masoner on June 11, 1948, in Santa Monica, California. They had no children and later divorced. On March 2, 1993 he married Aggie Lake in Kingman, Arizona. She was his loving companion in his golden years. He lived a long, productive life. Gene received his education in Salt Lake, graduating from West High where he was quarterback on the football team. At the University of Utah he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Owl and Key, the tennis team, and was the student body treasurer. He graduated from the U. of U. Medical School in 1946. He interned at the Santa Monica Hospital and did his residency at Kern General Hospital in Bakersfield, California. He entered his General Medicine practice in Culver City, California, in 1948. During the Korean War, he served as Captain in the Medical Corps, U.S. Army, where he was assigned to spend time at each M.A.S.H. hospital. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service while with the 120th Combat Engineers. After the war, Gene was a General Practitioner in Santa Monica until 1972, when he retired from medicine and bought an apple and pear ranch in Cashmere, Washington. He sold the ranch in 1982, and retired to St. George, Utah, to be near his brother Paul (deceased 1983) and where he kept busy with tennis, golf, and reading. He is survived by his: widow, Aggie Eardley, of St. George; step-daughter, Karen Baugher; three step-grandchildren, Shannon Contreras, Scott Baugher, Sarah Baugher; and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his: sister, Leanore Brimley; brothers, Kenneth, Edward, and Paul Eardley; and two nephews.
