Mary Belle Cavaness was born September 4, 1883 and passed away at Sullivan, Missouri, November 22, 1953, making her age 70 years, 2 months and 18 days. She leaves to mourn her going one sister, Mrs. Fannie Green of Cobden, Illinois, one brother-in-law, Mr. Green of Cobden, Illinois, 2 cousins, Frank Cavaness of Sullivan, Missouri, Henry Cavaness of Austin, Texas, and several other cousins and a host of friends. she was a Christian, having made her confession and was baptized. She lived a busy life and was kind to every one. She was stricken last March 29, and has been suffering since that time. Her sister, Mrs. Green, gave her loving care and everything that could be done, was done for her during her illness. She lived a good many years in Licking and will be missed by everyone. Funeral services were held at the Smith and Ferguson Funeral Home Tuesday, November 26th at 2:30 in the afternoon with Rev. Clarence B. Kell officiating. Interment was at the Van Cleve Cemetery under direction of Smith and Ferguson.

Permelia Cavaness married John Ormsby and had 3 children William, Fannie and Mary Bell. In 1883 or 1884 Permelia's husband, John Ormsby, ran away with another woman. Permelia and children lived with her mother, Mary Ann (Johnson) Cavaness at Licking, MO. The grandmother, Mary Ann (Johnson) Cavaness hated John Ormsby, she had the children tell everyone their last name was Cavaness instead of Ormsby. The children, William, Fannie and Mary Bell grew up as Cavaness and kept the name.
