Born in Canada about 1841, it is unknown when he came to the US. He worked as a farm laborer for John G. Weare, in Andover, NH according to the 1850 census.
He enlisted at age 19, 20 Aug 1861 joining the Union in NH 4th Regiment, Company E. He was wounded at St Petersburg, VA on 30 Jul 1864 and died from those wounds 2 Aug 1864. He had 18 days left on his 3 year contract with the Union Army.
No pension information was located nor could this writer find any burial stones for him. He is however memorialized in this monument, erected by Parker's Veteran's Association, it was headed by Francis Wayland Parker, Lt. Col. of the NH's 4th Regiment Company E. He is buried in Piscataquog Cemetery, New Hampshire, Hillsborough County pls see his memorial.
The front placque is missing, stolen many years ago, it is believe their are actual burials in the front portion of this lot. Pvt Leavitt's name is on a placque on the back of this memorial for those killed, died from disease or POWs and didn't return home for burial.
