Carl Otto Hunt moved to Kansas in a covered wagon in 1878 with his mother, an older half-brother (Andrew Johnson) and two half-sisters (Anna and Ida). They homesteaded south of Zurich KS. Most of his childhood was spent in and around Plainville.
He ran a mercantile business in Natoma with his half-brother, later becoming Postmaster for 10 years. After that he sold insurance.
In 1909, a group of local investors established the First National Bank of Natoma. It officially opened for business on May 1, 1909. Carl was one of the original stockholders.
