Father: John B Schabel.
Mother: Emma M
Bert was born in Michigan and moved with his family to Mineral WA sometime before 1910. In 1918, when he registered for the draft, he was working as a jitney driver for Mamby Lumber in Bordeaux, Thurston County, WA. (His father was living in Everett WA at that time.) In 1920, he was back in Mineral, living with Bill and Pearl Hill and working as a repairman in a garage.
He married Armelda Taylor in 1921 in Morton, Lewis County, WA. When I knew them, they lived in Mineral in a big house up on a hill overlooking Mineral Lake.
Note: Based on Federal Census records, he and Armelda might have split for a period as the 1930 census shows his wife as Katie. I don't have any records showing Armelda's middle name and only knew her as Aunt Armelda. I'm not sure what the rest of the story is, but the 1940 census shows his wife as Armelda again.
