Robert Wesley Antis, 83, of South Shore, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Fullerton, Ky., a son of the late Ernest Earl Antis and Grace Underwood Antis.
Robert was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Wells Antis, whom he married Aug. 23, 1947. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, William and Curtis Antis.
He was a retired wholesale snack foods distributor and a member of the Marine Corps League and James Flannery American Legion Post 276 in South Shore. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Elks Lodge and was a World War II Marines veteran who served in the Pacific Theater with the Fifth Marine Air Wing. He received five battle stars and a Presidential Citation.
Surviving are three children, Mark Antis of South Shore, Karen (Gary) Griffith of Greenup, Ky., and Keith (Salena) Antis of Russell, Ky.; nine grandchildren, David (Krista) Antis, Allison Antis, Scott Griffith, Emily Griffith, Danielle Antis, Kia Antis, Brianna Antis, Renae Lemaster and Robin Lemaster; a great-grandchild, Logan Leach; and a sister, Vera Perry of Port Richey, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery, with military graveside rites by James Flannery American Legion Post 276.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
