SGT US MARINE CORPS WORLD WAR II
Joseph ''Nel'' Bastarache, 68, of Summer Street died Saturday at the Southern Maine Medical Center.
Born in Biddeford, a son of Hormides and Marianne Cote Bastarache, he attended St. Andre's School and St. Louis High School, leaving to serve in the Marines during World War II. He finished high school after the war.
Mr. Bastarache owned and operated Acme Press in Biddeford for more than 40 years.
He was a communicant of St. Andre's Church, the American Legion, a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was president-elect of the Le Club Richelieu.
He was a Scout leader for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Therese ''Terri'' Guay Bastarache of Biddeford; three sons, Roger and Daniel, both of Biddeford, and Rene of Springvale; a daughter, Mrs. Todd (Dolores) Smith of Saco; and 10 grandchildren. (Maine Sunday Telegram 7/3/1994)
