ALVAY E. MURRAY
Alvay E. Murray, 72, 1080 Braddock Rd., Cumberland, died Sunday morning, Jan. 14, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was born April 28, 1890,* in Meyersdale, son of the late Alvay and Louise *[Louisa] (Strange) *[Strang] Murray. His wife, Elizabeth Dorothy Glessner Murray, preceded him in death. He is survived by nine children: Mrs. Earl Davos, California; Alvay J. Murray, Mrs. Charles Shannon, Mrs. John Claypoole, Baltimore; Dr. William E. Murray, Leonardtown, Md., Harry A. Murray, Johnstown, Dr. Jack L. Murray, Mrs. Jack Carnell, Mrs. Stanley Goodrich, Cumberland; also 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Howard Murray of Johnstown and one sister, Mrs. Harry A. Von Moose, Somerset. Mr. Murray served 50 years with the B & O Railroad, retiring in 1960. While vacationing in Florida for the winter, he suffered a heart attack at the home of a granddaughter in Fort Lauderdale.

Alvay E. Murray, 70, of 1080 Braddock Road, died yesterday in Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Beach Hospital where he had been a patient since December 29. Born in Meyersdale, he was a son of Alvay and Louisa (Streng)*[Strang] Murray. He had resided in Cumberland since 1939. His wife, Elizabeth (Glessner) Murray died in 1949. Mr. Murray was last employed as a conductor on the Capital Limited of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, retiring in October 1960, after 50 years of service. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Lodge 440, Potomac Lodge 100 AF&AM, Cumberland Consistory of Scottish Rites Bodies, and Ali Ghan Temple. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Louisa Davis, Santa Anna[sic], Cal.; Mrs. Bernie Shannon, Baltimore; Mrs. Vivian Carnell, Mrs. Ann Goodrich, both of here; four sons, Alvay James Murray, Baltimore; Dr. Jack L. Murray, city; Harry A. Murray, Johnstown; Dr. William E. Murray, Leonardtown, Md.; one brother, Howard A. Murray, Johnstown; one sister, Mrs. Anna VanMoose, Somerset, Pa.; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Kight Funeral Home; services Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.; interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, on Thursday.
