Daughter of George and Lillian Ivory.
Wife of Raymond A. Barcus Sr.
Mother of Raymond A. Barcus Jr., Wayne Barcus, Mark Barcus, and Penny Gentry.
She was a 1956 graduate of John Bassett Moore High School, Smyrna. Following graduation, she cared for her family and young children, and later, worked as a librarian at Townsend Elementary School. Mrs. Barcus then was employed as a title clerk for 25 years with the Delaware Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the New Castle office, retiring in 1990.
After her retirement from the state she continued to work, serving as the church secretary at Ewell's-St. Paul United Methodist Church, Clayton, and later, working as a school crossing guard at Townsend Elementary School.
The most important thing in her life was her family and a desire to help others. She was a life-member of the Townsend Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and she had attended Immanuel United Methodist Church, Townsend, and later Scott United Methodist Church, Blackbird. Jean enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
