Born David Shapiro, he was one of the nation's top political humorists during the 1960s and 1970s. He gained fame for his facial and voice impressions of Presidents Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and other key political figures including Hubert H. Humphrey, Edward (Ted) Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Henry Kissinger and William F. Buckley Jr. He went on to master over 100 celebrity voices including those of Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, Howard Cosell, Kirk Douglas, Rodney Dangerfield, Jack Palance and James Cagney. At the peak of his popularity, he was a frequent guest on the Ed Sullivan Show," "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He went on to release several comedy albums during his career including: "I am the President" (1969), "Radio Free Nixon" (1971), "Richard Nixon Superstar" (1971), "Richard Nixon: A Fantasy" (1973), "David Frye Presents the Great Debate" (1980), "He's Back!
