Betty Beggs Bevan Colley died peacefully Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013, just four days short of her 93rd birthday. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2401 College Ave., the Rev. David F. Klein officiating. She will be laid to rest privately next to her husband, Bill, in the Bevan Plot in Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to St. John's Episcopal Church or to a charity of one's choice , honoring her memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on Jan. 9, 1920, Betty was the daughter of Lionel W. and Emma Beggs Bevan. For 50 years, her father was active in civic, business and church affairs in Fort Worth. He was the CEO of The Fair Store from 1925 until 1961. Her grandmothers, Mary Jane Bevan and Maria Beggs, were founders of All Saints Hospital. Betty was a graduate of Central High School, now R.L. Paschal, and National Park Seminary for Women in Silver Springs, Md. She married William A. Colley in 1943, a marriage of 57 years before Bill's death in 2000. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church where her mother and father were founding members. Her memberships also included the Assembly, Junior League of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Garden Club, Fort Worth Club and River Crest Country Club. The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Goldman, Stonegate Nursing Center, Dr. Robert Kelly and all of her caregivers for the wonderful care she received from them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, William Tyler Colley; son-in-law, John R. Bankston; sister and her husbands, Jo Marie Bevan Lilly Stone and Alvin Artice Lilly and Clovis "Stoney" Stone; brother and his wife, Lionel W. Bevan Jr. and Barbara; and nephews, Ted Beggs Bevan and Dr. Albert Artice Lilly Jr. Survivors: In addition to her daughter, Betty Colley Bankston and Bill Humphrey of Fort Worth, Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dee Lane Colley of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, John R. Bankston Jr., Lacy Bankston Tucker and her husband, William, of Anderson, S.C., Lane Colley Ciborowski and her husband, Kyle, of Dallas and Bevan Colley Ryan and her husband, Brent, of Austin; great-grandchildren, Evy Ciborowski and Ephrem and Georgia Ryan; and her nieces, nephews and friends and their families, all of whom she so dearly loved.
