Paul Glen Harris, 85, of Pittsburg, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born August 12, 1918, at Keytesville, Missouri, to Otis and Blanche McDaniel Harris. As a child, he moved with his family to Opolis. He attended Pleasant Prairie Schools near Opolis and Cherokee High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Army 33rd Combat Engineers.
He married Zella Christine Miller on September 9, 1939, at Lamar, Missouri. She survives of the home. The couple lived on Monkey Island at Grand Lake from 1945 until they moved to Pittsburg in 1997.
Mr. Harris was employed by W. S. Dickey Clay Manufacturing for 20 years. He later worked for Radell Construction, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Benjamin A. Fuller American Legion Post No. 64. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Additional survivors include one son, Glen Harris of Frontenac; one daughter, Sherry Thompson of Thomson, Georgia; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd R. Harris; and one sister, Wanita Titterington Van Gorden.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Carol Willadsen officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 will provide flag folding ceremonies. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time today at the Church. Friends also may call after 1 p.m. today at Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, 114 East Fourth Street.
