So up we went to the house and asked about the puppies. I'm not sure who brought out the puppy but she was a fur ball to say the least and back to the friends house we went. So they had a new puppy and so did we.
My Dad took to her right away and named her Muffins. She fit right in with Gidget. She was a tiny ball of fur.
She loved to ride my skate board. Muffins would put her front paws on the back of the board and push it with her back paws. She was so cute doing this.
She also loved lemons. Weird dog.
She had one litter of puppies with Gus. Didn't get her fixed in time. Of course with three children in the house, who sometimes forgot to keep the two dogs apart. Well, lets just say that Gus had his way with her and got her pregnant. We expected her to have just two or three puppies but she surprised us with 7 puppies. She started labor at night and by morning had had three puppies on the floor in my bedroom. The rest came as the morning wore on. Of the puppies she had, we kept two, Brindle and Lady. The others we gave away.
Muffins died while we were in Indiana visiting family. My than brother-in-law stayed home because he had to work. She died the same day as two human family members died. My paternal Grandfather's girl friend passed away as did my Mom's Aunt Ruth. We had gone to visit my Dad's sister and I was driving back to the River in my car since we had taken two cars with us on the roadtrip. At the time and even now, The River has no phone and cell phones were still sort of new and we didn't have any. I was just about to Brookston, when I saw red and blue lights light up the night sky. Than there was pitch blackness. I pulled into my cousin's house to find out what happened. Turns out a transformer blew. While I was there, the phone rang and it was my brother-in-law calling to tell us that Muffins had died. Because she was my Dad's dog and I knew that my brother-in-law would never bury her to my Dad's expectations. I told him to wrap her in a blanket (yeah silly I know) and put her in a large plastic bag and put her in the chest freezer so that Dad could bury her when we got back.
