According to John W. Busey, a noted National Cemetery researcher, no Charles W. Miner that was a member of any Illinois unit could be identified in Federal records; this burial could possibly be Private Charles W. Miner of Company C, 70th New York Volunteer Infantry, who was killed on July 2nd, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

He had enlisted on April 25, 1861 at Paw Paw, Michigan, and he was 18 years of age at the time of his enlistment.

Note: Illinois only had 3 regiments at Gettysburg: The 8th Cavalry, the 12th Cavalry, and the 82nd Infantry.
