There is no record of a William Cannells who served from Connecticut. This may well be Corp. William Cannell of the 16th Maine Inf., Co. F. He was killed on July 1 in fighting at Oak Ridge during the battle of Gettysburg.
Enlisted at Gorham, Maine July 10, 1862 at age 27 as a Corporal into Co F 16th Maine Infantry Regiment. He was KIA at battle of Gettysburg.
