Christ S Pappas, 75, died peacefully Thursday morning December 8, 2011, at home. He was born August 7, 1936, to Nicholas & Helen Pappas, in New Brunswick. He moved to Middlesex upon his marriage to the other half of his whole, Lorraine. Together they raised 2 children and stood firm together through good times and bad. Chris, who was also known as Tom, was very involved in his community. He was a Navy veteran who continued to serve his country as President of his Union at American Cyanmid, as a firefighter with Beechwood Heights Fire Company #2 and as chairman of the Middlesex Democratic Organization for 37 years. But of all his accomplishments, his four grandchildren were his proudest achievement. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine J. Pappas in 2010, his parents and 5 siblings. He is survived by, his son Nicholas and wife Samantha, his daughter Betty and husband David Spencer, his grandchildren, Melissa, David, Christopher and Nicholas, and his sister Anna, and many nieces and nephews.
Christ was an avid camper and traveler, he camped throughout the United States, and seasonally at Triplebrook, NJ and Trails End, Pa, and loved to travel overseas, he would give his wife a moment's notice and they would be ready to leave for a day trip to Niagara Falls or a cross country trip, and if you were lucky enough to be in his home at that moment, they took you along for the ride. He also loved dining out with family and friends and together with his wife, they held legendary New Year's Eve parties and annual pig roasts. Their house was an open door to their family and friends and their children's friends, many even moving in. Christ was a generous and resourceful man, many people turned to him for help when they had nowhere else to turn, as whatever you needed, he would find a way to get it for you. He was loud and brash, demanding and kind, funny, smart and loving and he will be missed by everyone who knew him but as he said every day after the loss of his wife "Better days are coming".
Visitation will on Sunday, December 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Rd., Middlesex, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 1pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. Interment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
