J. Wayne Brooks, age 69, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at home in Florence, Ala., after an extended illness and multiple surgeries after his plane crash in 1991.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha Allen Brooks; one son, Allen Wayne Brooks and wife, Alicia Kelly Brooks; two loved grandchildren, allie Elizabeth and John Allen Brooks, all of Killen; one sister, Nadine Brooks Baughan, of Florence; and several special nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Skinner Brooks; his father, Levi Clifford Brooks Sr; one brother, Levi Clifford Brooks Jr.; one nephew, newborn Vaughan baby.
Wayne was owner of Brooks Ag Service, a dedicated crop sprayer to his farmers. He was a dedicated pilot and loved working with farmers and helping others along the way and making sure their relationship with God was as it should be. He loved fishing and hunting, and breakfast with special friends every morning. He was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ, having served as a deacon for more than 30 years. In earlier years, he was employed by Ford Motor Co., was a member of the operating engineers local UAW amd a 1959 graduate of Central High School.
The funeral was Thursday Sept. 9, at Cross Point Church of Christ, at 1 p.m., with burial following at Tri-Cities Memorial gardens. Ellis Coats, Frank Mills and Clifford Miles officiated.
