Nick was the only child of Charles W., a forest ranger, and Florence Murphree Nichols, a homemaker. They lived in Eva, across from the school Nick attended Morgan County Alabama. He was a graduate of the University of North Alabama, majoring in physical education.
Following that, he coached for nine years in Morgan County, Winston County and Pensacola Florida. He later worked for a company in Witchita, Texas in cost engineering before moving back to his roots. Later he became the owner of Nick's Supply, selling pet and kennel supplies, guns and knives. After the death of his father, Charles, Nick moved in with his mother.
During those early years of coaching, Nick was a frequent visitor in our home. It became our tradition that he visited us each Christmas Eve and we often attended antique car shows in the spring. He and Gerald often worked on his antique car here together. He was especially fond of Packards.
He maintained a store, weekends were spent at flea markets in Cullman and Limestone Counties, with the assistance of his mother.
He was a popular vendor at flea markets, known for varied interests, with the guns, knives, cutlery sets and musical instruments he sold. He was also enjoyed attending antique car shows and owned several older vehicles.
Nick enjoyed being with people, had no enemies, but his life ended abruptly at the hands of robbers following a Sunday at a local flea market. The tragedy shocked the quiet community of Eva.
At the time of his death at 56, he was survived by his mother Florence ,his aunts, Eulala McCain and Mavis Horton, and great-neices and great-nephews as well as extended family.
