SHERRILL - Edward S. Card, 80, of W. Hinds Ave., Sherrill passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in the Rome Nursing Home.
Ed was born on Nov. 1, 1930 in Rensselaer, N.Y., a son of the late William and Martha (McCormick) Card.
Ed was a graduate of St. Francis De Sales School of Utica. After graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Army and after his honorable discharge he went on to graduate from Marietta College of Ohio and received his Master's Degree from Albany State College.
On Aug. 6, 1960, Ed and Patricia Davis were united in marriage at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica and have shared a loving union of over fifty years together.
During his tenure at V.V.S. Central School and other local schools Ed enjoyed teaching social studies during the school year, driver's education during the summer months and was the faculty advisor for the V.V.S. National Honor Society retiring in 1994.
His memberships included the Lions Club where Ed served as a past president, he was also a past president of the board of directors of the Eagles Drum and Bugle Corp. and a member of the V.V.S. Teachers Association.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia of Sherrill; two sons, Bill Card of Shelton, Wash.; and Bob Card and his companion, Helen Zyma of Old Forge; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Scott Wills of Penn Laird, Va., two grandchildren, Allie and Zachary Wills; one brother, Richard Card of Adams; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Alice and Stephen Heffron of Fayetteville and Florence Card of Baldwinsville, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by one brother, William Card and one sister, Mary Burkart.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. Mr. Card's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday immediately following calling hours at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
