Indianapolis Star---September 28, 2008

Asatomi Kimie Coleman 73, Lawrence, died Friday, September 26, 2008, after losing her valiant battle with multiple health issues. She was born in Tobata, Japan, August 16, 1935, to Asatomi Sheiji and Terasaki Ume, who are deceased. She was predeceased by three brothers. She leaves behind to cherish her memory loving husband of 40 years, Gene; children, Victor (Meredith) Schupay, Tampa, FL, Michael (Susan) Schupay, Indianapolis, Joann Schupay, Greenfield, Deborah (James) Andrychuk, Indianapolis; the grandchildren who were the lights of her life, Cory Schupay, Craig Schupay, Connor Schupay, Christian Schupay, Haley Carroll, Mackenzie Carroll and Allison Carroll; her stepdaughter, Stephanie Toole, Chipley, FL; special "adopted" children, Steve Zuhlke and Jo Tibbs; and too many friends to count. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She became an American citizen because of her love for her adopted country. She was a staunch American and very proud of it. She loved to bowl, golf, knit, sew, cook, gamble and numerous other things. Whatever she did, it was 100%. She could light up a room by entering it. She was a member of VFW Post 7119 Ladies Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the United States Bowling Congress. The many casinos she frequented will also miss her. Kimie retired as an Annex Supervisor from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service in 1995, after 20 years of faithful service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Marion County Association of Retarded Citizens. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to all the doctors and nurses at the CVCC Unit and the Yellow Rose Hospice of Methodist Hospital for the care and concern they gave to their wife, mother, and grandmother. There are too many to recognize individually. A memorial calling will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Lawrence, 5215 N. Shadeland Ave. www.flannerbuchanan.com
