Gilbert Cruit is the son of William Cruit and Mary Hannah Moon. He married Sara Ann Hyne and they had the following known children: Anoka L., Lena R. and Hazel L.

Mr. Gilbert Cruit, of Columbus, died at his home on West Town street/Wednesday morning. Death resulted from heart failure. The deceased was about seventy years of age. Besides his widow he leaves two daughters, Misses Hazel and Lena Cruit.
Mrs. Hannah Williamson of this county, is a sister of the deceased and Messrs. George and Robert Cruit of near Lancaster and Mr. Henry Cruit of Shelbyville, Ills., are brothers.
Mr. Cruit was a member of Co. 117th O. V. I. and served throughout the Civil war. The funeral will take place Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence. Burial at Greenlawn.
Mr. Cruit formerly lived at Stoutsville. He was a properous farmer and moved to Columbus two or three years ago. His wife was Miss Sallie Hyne, daughter of the late Samuel Hyne of Stoutsville. His only son Anoka Cruit, died several years ago.
