Edwina B. Corcoran, 80, of Sun City Center died Friday, Nov. 12, at South Bay Hospital. A native of Myrtle, Miss., she moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1976 from Washington, D.C. She was a retired instructor for the Air Force. She was survived by her husband, Thaddeus; a brother, William Blizzard of Tampa; and a sister, Ruth Bryant of Birmingham, Ala. Lewers Funeral Home, Ruskin.
Emma Edwina Blizzard was born 15 August 1913, in Myrtle, Mississippi. She received a diploma in music from New Albany High School. She was admitted to the Mississippi State College for Women (Mississippi University for Women) after three years of high school, and graduated with a B.A. degree in English and Latin in 1933. Edwina did graduate study at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and completed a business course at Bowling Green Business University, Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1941. Edwina's career was with the Defense Department in Washington. She held the position of Chief of the Career Development and Training Branch in the Civilian Personnel Division, Office of the Secretary of the Air Staff, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, at the Pentagon. She retired from this position in 1969.
After her retirement she and her long-time friend and sometimes beau, an Irishman named Terry, got married, both for the first time, on 6 December 1969, in Annunciation Church, Washington, D.C.
