Rachel McDaniel was the daughter of Hugh McDonald/McDaniel (b about 1760, d 9-24-1827) and Rebecca (Rogers) McDonald/McDaniel (b about 1761, d about 1840). Rachel's parents lived in South Carolina and then Pulaski County, KY. Her father Hugh served in the Revolutionary War for the 3rd S. Carolina Regiment of Colonel Thompson. Hugh was an orderly Sgt. at the Battle of Sullivan Island. Hugh was very strong and endured many hardships during his military service, but his strength and the support of wife Rebecca helped him through it.
Hugh and Rebecca were married 9-22-1778 in Fairfield, SC. The name "McDonald" was their original surname, but they also used the name "McDaniel."
