A Fort Wayne man died Monday after his vehicle and an SUV collided on Indiana 3 at the south edge of Markle, the Huntington County coroner reported.
Richard D. Connelly Jr., 57, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:54 p.m. wreck after his southbound vehicle drifted left of center and collided with an SUV driven by Michael W. Gillespie, 32, of Montpelier. Connelly's vehicle went on to strike one driven by Robert Williford, 46, of Angola, who had been following Gillespie north on Indiana 3.
Gillespie suffered minor injuries, but declined medical assistance. Williford and a passenger in his vehicle were both uninjured, but southbound traffic on Indiana 3 was closed for several hours during the investigation, which is continuing. An autopsy to determine how Connelly died is scheduled Tuesday at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
