John Fitzgerald was an American Soldier during the American Civil War of 1861 to 1865.
He enlisted on September 2nd, 1863, at New York City, New York, for three years service at the age of 19, and was mustered into service as a Private in Company F of the 17th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on October 13th, 1863, however was transferred to Company D on November 1st, 1863, and served his term of service with that company. He was with the regiment through its campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
Private Fitzgerald was killed in action on September 1st, 1864, at the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia.
