Gideon was active in Windham town affairs. He served as fence viewer and surveyor in 1739 and as constable in 1743. He sold several pieces of property in Windham in 1744 and had become a separatist, and it was at this time he may have moved to the Canterbury-Plainsfield area. He is also known to have been involved in the Susquehanna Land Company in PA, as were other Binghams and husbands of Binghams. The settlers would go back and forth between CT and PA each spring and fall to plant and harvest. He was a resident of Canterbury, CT on the 1790 US census. The record shows one male over 16, one male under 16, and 2 females.
Gideon died about age eighty before January 1795 when his son and heir, John, deeded Gideon's share in the Susquehanna Company to Benjamin Dorrace of Kingston, Luzerne Co, PA.
Gideon's will was written in 1790 and accepted Feb 10, 1796. In it he left all furniture and one good cow to his wife, Abigail, and divided the rest of his estate in five equal parts for his five children by Abigail. Abigail and son Johnson were joint executors and had several of Gideon's debts to settle. Abigail lived to be about 86.
