An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on August 26, 1920 for Mrs. Clara C. Elam, stated she had died at the home of her son, Robert, east of Windsor. Mrs. Elam was born in Indiana, June 10, 1847, being 73 years, 2 months and 5 days old. Her maiden name was Tull. After her marriage to William A. Elam, she and her husband came to Shelby County, settling near Stewardson. Besides the husband and son named, Mrs. Elam also had two sisters, Mrs. Montgomery of Monett, Mo., and Mrs. Smith of New York City. She was a member of the Baptist church. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. C. W. Gant and burial was in the cemetery near Stewardson.
