Annie H. Slaughter
Annie Hughes Slaughter, 79, of Gordonsville, died Friday, April 8, 2005 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Marilyn Spencer, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11 at Gordonsville United Methodist Church. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery, Gordonsville.

She is survived by a son, William Thomas "Bill" Slaughter III and his wife, Lynn, of Gordonsville; a daughter, Carolyn Slaughter Sanford and her husband, Monk, of Orange; a brother, William Carrington Hughes Jr. and his wife, Tootie, of Gordonsville; a sister, Helen Hughes Oxendine of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Carmon Jenkins and her husband, Larry, of Orange, Chip Sanford of Orange, Carri Fanning and her husband, Chris, of Lake of the Woods, Jacob William Slaughter and Lindsey Ann Slaughter, both of Gordonsville; three great-grandchildren, Skylar Elise Pritchett, Amber Renee Jenkins and Carly Elizabeth Jenkins, all of Orange; three nieces, Cyndy Breaux, Sandy George and Christy Oxendine; and a nephew, Russell Oxendine.

Mrs. Slaughter was born August 20, 1925 in Nelson County, the daughter of the late William Carrington Hughes Sr. and Alma Harris Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas "Skippy" Slaughter Jr.

She was a member of the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Gordonsville Chapter #186 and a lifetime member of Gordonsville United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer. She was a dedicated member of the church Fun Lunch Bunch.

She worked at the Gordonsville Community Hospital for a number of years until her retirement.
