Jack Shelly was born in Akron. He died at the age of 25. He was a graduate of West High School and worked for the Standard Oil Co. before inlisting in the US Marine Corp. Jack was killed in action on June 15, 1944 on Saipan. His remains layed in an unmarked grave untill Jan. 7, 1949 when they were finely returned to his family here in America. He was buried with a ceremony by the America Legion Post 209. Jack Shelly was my cousin. I never met him as I was born in '51. However, I heard many family members over the years talk about his great personality and good looks. I know I would have liked him.

Thanks to Laura Stockdale for repairs to Jack's photo.
Also, Thanks so much to "Always" for sponsoring Jack's page.
On Nov. 9, 2002, as I was looking for other graves, I found Jack's military gravestone under a bush and about a half an inch of dirt. He did have a stone after all. Thanks to Doug for the photo of Jack's grave marker.
