Summary:
When John Phillip Sawka Sr was born on December 28, 1920, in Windsor, Connecticut, his father, Alexander, was 42 and his mother, Mary (nee Barczyszyn), was 25. He has five sisters and three brothers. He married Mary Ellen Daughaday in 1944 and they had three children together. He then married Ruth Allene Weatherman about 1952. He married Lillian Marie Baldwin-Wright in 1983. He died on November 9, 1997, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 76, and was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.

Details:
John married Mary Daughaday Sept, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. Since both were in the Marines at the time, it seems likely that this is how they met. John moved to Kansas City in early 1946 (3617 Orville, KCK, Mary's home since birth). Mary died shortly after giving birth to a daughter, Oct. 1951.

Sometime in 1951-52, John married Ruth Weatherman (she, recently divorced). This marriage must have been rocky in that in the census records (KCK annual census), sometimes Ruth is listed as resident @ 3617 Orville, KCK and sometimes not. In 1958, John and Ruth divorced and John remained single until meeting Lillian Baldwin-Wright in the early 1980's.

John lived at 3617 Orville, KCK for at least 51 years, likely inheriting the house from his first wife, Mary. Probably, it was the only place he lived in Kansas City. He was a switch engine engineer for the Santa Fe RR in the Argentine yards for about 30 years.

John joined the US Marines, Jan, 1940. He was trained as a rifleman and machine gun crewman. He was in hostile action at Guadalcanal (Aug-Dec, 1942) machine gunner, enlisted for four years, then extended for two years. He was discharged honourably in March, 1946.
