KILLED IN ACTION - WORLD WAR II
Wayne has a profile on "Together We Served"
Wayne is the oldest child of Arthur and Daisy (Masters) McClintock.
Wayne enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with his mothers written permission before his eighteenth birthday.
He died aboard the USS LSD951 of wounds received in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands.
He received these awards: Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal.
Wayne was first buried in Okinawa then re-interred at Fort Leavenworth April 6, 1949 when the US Government gave Okinawa back to Japan. Aunt Daisy requested Wayne be buried at Fort Leavenworth so his remains would be close enough to visit.
Wayne was just a couple of years younger than my father. They were great pals. My father admired him so much, he named his oldest son after Wayne, Rex DeWayne. My mother thought he'd gotten the name wrong, but the rest of the story is Wayne thought DeWayne wasn't a good fit for a Marine so he had it changed.
