Dale Weston Frank, 82, of Columbia City, died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at The Oaks in Columbia City.
Born in Portland on April 26, 1926, he was a son of Herman Ray and Amelia Marie (Fox) Frank. They moved to Columbia City in 1929.
On July 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ardeth (Minear). They have lived in their present home for 57 years.
A U.S. Army veteran he served as a military police, serving 1944 during the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He received a Bronze battle star, Philippine liberation ribbon, Victory and Good Conduct metal and Army occupation metal. (Japan). He was honorably discharged Nov. 26, 1946 and returned home to the family business.
His lifetime business was H.R. Frank and Sons, Inc. (Franks Greenhouse), later becoming the co-owner and president. A grower of roses and orchids were his specialties, and he was a member of the American Orchid Society.
He attended Collamer Christian Church and was an active Christian, serving as board member and deacon of churches he attended over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Ardeth; daughters Kathleen (Darrell) Turner, Linda (Steven) Seidner, Carol Frank, all of Fort Wayne; sons Daniel Frank of Cullman, Ala., Matthew (Lisa) Frank of Rochester and Joel (Stacy) Frank of South Whitley; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; a brother, Glenn of Columbia City; his brother-in-law Dr. Richard Minear of Columbia City; and a sister-in-law, Esther Frank of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Wilson, Marcus, Hugh and Marion Frank; three sisters, Evelyn Frank, Alice Frank and Amy McKinney.
The funeral service is at noon Thursday, at Collamer Christian Church, with Pastor David Wagner officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial is at South Park Cemetery, Columbia City.
