Charles Robert "Bob" Brooks joined the Marine Corp shortly after high school graduation in June, 1967. Training in Paris Island, SC; Camp LeJeune, NC; Kings Bay Naval Base near Brunswick, GA, he became an air traffic controller. While enroute to San Diego Naval base, he displayed symptoms of a brain tumor. He underwent surgery on July 28 1968 at the San Diego Naval Hospital. While there Bob underwent Cobalt treatments to destroy the remainder of the malignant brain tumor. He was given a medical discharge from the Marines and lived with his wife Judy Harden Brooks until June 1976. At that time Bob returned home to live with his parents Walter C. and Christine Hales Brooks until his health had deteriorated to the point they could no longer care for him. In 1984, Bob moved into Rossville Convalescent Home where he lived until he died in October 1994.
