Gary W. Blexrude, age 73, of Eau Claire passed away early Thursday morning, March 5, 2009, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd. The Rev. Jim Page will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Countryside Union Cemetery in the town of Goetz. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Gary was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Eau Claire to Clarence H. and Lois (Hamlin) Blexrude. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1954. Gary served his country in the United States Marine Corps., being honorably discharged in August 1957. On Sept. 27, 1958, he married Sandra O'Mara. After graduating from Eau Claire Technical College in 1967, Gary worked in the engineering departments at Johnson Manufacturing in Chippewa Falls, Leesona Corp. and then Extrusion Dies Inc. until retiring in 1997.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and sharing time with friends and family. He especially liked sharing stories about his life experiences with his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sandy Blexrude; daughter, Candy (Steve) Schreiner; sons, Steve (Tammy) Blexrude and Scott Blexrude (partner Jim Zachary); grandchildren, Joe Simet, Kelly Simet, Jason Blexrude, Heather (Phil) Kurzer, Lauren Schreiner, Carly Schreiner; sister-in-law Darla Sorensen; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; great-granddaughter, Paris Vander Zanden; nieces; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lois Blexrude; stepmother, Elaine Blexrude; brothers, Gordon "Buck" and Thomas Blexrude; and his grandparents, Amos and Vernie Hamlin.
