"JONATHAN FREEHAFER AT BUTLER"

Jonathan Freehafer, an old-time resident of Worthington Township, and a citizen of Butler for many years died on Wednesday of last week, aged 80 years, 6 months and 23 days. The funeral took place Friday at 10 a.m. and services were conducted by Rev. E.D. Paulin of the Evangelical Church. Interment was made in the German Cemetery east of town, by the side of his first wife who preceded him in death about seventeen years ago. Deceased leaves a wife and six children-four daughters and two sons.

JONATHAN FREEHAFER was the son of Christian and Elizabeth Schaeffer Freehafer.

Jonathan was married to Miss Mary Ann Cramer, daughter of George L. and Elizabeth Henry Cramer, on August 6, 1846, in Butler, Worthington Township, Richland County, Ohio. Jonathan and Mary were the parents of twelve known children, Amanda Jane Freehafer Kunkel Minard, George Washington G.W. Freehafer, an infant daughter who died in 1849, Sarah M. Freehafer Simmons, Mary E. Freehafer who died at age 2 years and 7 months, John H. Freehafer, Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" Freehafer Cates, Augustus F. Freehafer who was killed during a train accident, Emerson Freehafer who died at age 4, Malissa Freehafer, Daniel E. Freehafer, an infant son who died in 1865 and Arminda "Minnie" Freehafer Hills, who lived in Laingsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan.

Jonathan's wife Mary Ann died on November 10, 1881, and was buried at the Dutch Hill Cemetery, near Butler, Ohio.

Jonathan was married a second time to Miss Hester "Hettie" Fike, daughter of Tobias and Mary Fike, in March of 1885.

Jonathan was a farmer and member of the Salem Evangelical Church. He died on 24 April, 1901, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 23 days.
