Bedson Eardley was born in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, England, son of Edward Eardley and Elizabeth Grocott. He married Louisa Cooper on 16 Feb 1852 in Burslem, Staffordshire, England. They joined the LDS Church in England.

Bedson and Louisa sailed from Liverpool on 23 March 1856 aboard the "Enoch Train" and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on 1 May 1856. They crossed the plains with the Daniel McArthur Handcart Company, arriving in Salt Lake Valley on 26 Sep 1856.

Bedson was a potter (Deseret Pottery and Eardley Bros. Pottery) and served an LDS mission in England from 1874-1875; he returned as President of the company of Saints on the ship "Dakota" which sailed on 14 Oct 1875. Aboard the ship he met Mary Ann Holding and they married on 8 May 1876 in the Salt Lake Endowment House.

Bedson served two prison terms (a total of 21 months) for unlawful co-habitation (polygamy). He died of a lung disease after years and years of breathing pottery dust and lead from his glazes.
