Iowa City Press Citizen, November 16, 1923:
"Mrs. Letha Lounsberry, wife of Prof. Carl Lounsberry, one of Iowa City's able educators, passed away at a hospital in Chicago, yesterday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. She had gone to the city for treatments about three weeks ago. Her husband was summoned to her side, by a message earlier in the'day, and left here at 2:30 -- having started for the metropolis before the subsequent telegram bore the sadder news. Mrs. Lounsberry was about 36 years of age. She was a native of Nebraska, and lived, in her girlhood, at Columbus Junction from which town she came to Iowa City. Surviving are her husband, her little daughter, Margaret; her mother, Mrs. G. W Oakes--who lives at 1142 East Court, which is the Lounsberry home; a brother, Lieut. Gail Oakes, of Washington, D. C., noted for his wonderful experiences as an aviator, in the World War; and two sisters, Mesdames Grover [Grace Oakes] Jacobson of Ponca City, Okla., and Wright [Ada Merle Oakes] Stacy of Boise, Idaho. The remains will be brought to Iowa City for interment, and the funeral hour will be announced later. Mrs Lounsberry Was formerly Miss Letha Oakes, a niece of Messrs. Perry and John Oakes, of Iowa City. As a charming girl and a lovable wife, mother, and neighbor, she had endeared herself to a large circle of Iowa City friends, all of whom will read with intense sorrow of her untimely death."
Her husband remarried twice after her death.
