Mary Beth Smith Jones, 101, died Thursday at her home after a long illness. The native of Rockdale County moved to Statesboro in 1902. She was the widow of the late H.P. "Chick" Jones Sr., and worked for many years with her husband at the H.P. Jones Gulf Oil Company. She was the oldest living member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, a charter member of the Statesboro Womens Club, a charter member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the oldest living graduate of the "Beesie Tift" college in Forsyth, and a member of the class of 1913. She was a member of the American Camellia Society, a member of the Womens Missionary Union for many years and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday school class at Statesboro First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, H.P. "Chick" Jones Jr., Statesboro and J.E. "Jay" Jones, Warner Robins; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
