Simon was the son of Evens Finley Burgan and Mary Ann Connelly. He married Willetta Baird on Dec 12, 1883. They adopted Ora Louise.

Feb 6, 1935 - Carroll Daily - Carrollton — Funeral services for Symon Burgan, 93 year old pioneer who has lived south of Carrollton for many years, will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Carrollton church. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery. Mr. Burgan died Sunday evening at the Clarence Blanchard home where he had been making his home following his return from St. Anthony hospital at Carroll. He had been in poor health for some time. There are no immediate surviving relatives, Mrs. Burgan having passed away Nov. 13, 1934.

Feb 13, 1935 - Carroll Daily - Symon Burgan was born in Wayne county Ohio, Aug 8, 1842, the son of Evans and Mary Ann Burgan. With his parents he came to Muscatine, IA, when he was two years old. He spent 10 years in the mining fields of Montana and Idaho, returning home in 1872. Later his father purchased the farm south of Carrollton on which Mr. Burgan lived until his death.

Mr Burgan was united in marriage Dec 12, 1883, to Willetta M Baird. Having no children the couple adopted a daughter Ora Louise, who passed away in 1922. Mr and Mrs Burgan spent their entire married life on their farm south of Carrollton. Funeral services were held at Carrollton U.B. church with Rev. Ray Thompson officiating. Burial was made in the Carroll cemetery.
