G M Cretsinger, an old pioneer of this county, died at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha last Thursday night as the result of an operation performed for a rupture. He lingered a few days after the operation but blood poisoning developed. His brother Milton and a niece and his brother-in-law Mr. Minnich were present at the time of his death.
His remains were shipped to his old home in Coon Rapids where they were laid to rest in the cemetery of that city Sunday afternoon. The funeral services were in charge of the Masonic order of which he was a member. Rev. Miller of the Christain church conducted the services. The attendance was larger the church being far too small to accommodate those present.
G. M. Cretsinger was born in Putman, Co. Ohio May 18, 1851. He came to Carroll County in 1856 with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Cretsinger and located on a farm near Coon Rapids. With the exception of a few years this has been his home from the earliest pioneer days in this county.
During the years he resided here he succeded in accumulating quite a fortune. He was unmarried and his parents had long since passed away. He leaves to mourn his death one brother and three sisters. The deceased was one of those sturdy characters who always treated every one on the square and had the most profound contempt for any one who did not conform to his rigid code of honor.
In his death the county loses another of the old pioneers who contributed his part in making this country what it is. His death is not only mourned by near relatives but by all who knew him. He lived a just and honorable life and leaves a respected name behind.
