William 'Bill' Cecil Spilman, 56, of Effingham,KS., passed away, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery, Good Intent. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials in honor of Mr. Spilman are suggested to the American Cancer Relay for Life Birds of a Feather Team or the Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home. Bill was born April 2, 1954 in Atchison, KS., the son of Harold Wayne and Emma Lou (Dimmitt) Spilman. He attended school in Atchison. Bill had worked for Atchison Castings for 37 years retiring as an Overhead Crane Operator in 2009. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union #6943. Bill enjoyed building cars, drag racing, camping and listening to Rock N Roll. He was a dedicated worker who cherished time spent with his family.
Bill married Dorothy Scherer August 18, 1972 in Atchison. She preceded him in death February 20, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mike Spilman; father-in-law, Lawrence Scherer; mother-in-law, Betty Lou Scherer and sister-in –law, Sparky Scherer.
Survivors include three sons, Brad Spilman and Tiffany Warden; Brian and Jenny Spilman, and Bruce and Carla Spilman, all of Atchison; brothers, Richard ‘Dick' (Dorothy) Spilman, Atchison; Pat Spilman, Dallas, TX and Steve (Mary) Spilman, Dallas, TX; a sister, Becky (Gary) Boyle, Doniphan, KS and 12 grandchildren.
