Merrill W. "Bud" Black, 84, of 720C Menno Village, Chambersburg, and formerly of McConnellsburg, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at home.
Born May 29, 1916, at Six Mile Run, he was a son of the late Abner and Sally O'Neal Black.
He was the husband of Helen Louise (Houck) Black, whom he married June 29, 1943.
Mr. Black was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of McConnellsburg, where he was a former member of the church council.
He was a graduate of Saltillo High School.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he owned and operated Black's Radiator and Glass Shop in McConnellsburg for 30 years.
He was a charter member, 50 year member and past master of Mount Zion Lodge 774 of McConnellsburg; a former 12 year member of McConnellsburg Town Council; a life member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Company; and for several years scoutmaster for the McConnellsburg Boy Scout Troop. Since moving to Menno Village he had been a volunteer at the retirement community.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, Sharon Remaly of Rancocas, N.J.; two sons, Robert "Mack" of Newville and Lynn W. of Norman, Okla.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Cloyd Patrick of New Grenada; and two sisters, Ruth Houck of New Grenada and Hazel Cutchall of McConnellsburg. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Burial will be Thursday in New Grenada Cemetery.
